The 34th IGC will publish standard abstracts electronically at the time of the event, but will not publish papers presented. Symposium convenors and groups wishing to publish papers presented at the 34th IGC are free to enter into agreements with publishing houses.
The scientific sponsors of the IGC, the International Union of
Geological Sciences ( IUGS) has an arrangement with The Geological Society
Publishing House for the publication of books arising from its
programmes and other activities, including International Geological
Congresses. IUGS benefits financially from this agreement.
IGC symposia convenors might consider producing a Geological Society
Special Publication from their session - Special Publications
are published online and as hardback books. The series is highly
regarded internationally for the quality of science and production. They
will be included in ISI Web of Science and Scopus.
The Special Publications do not have to be comprehensive
treatments, but they do need to be balanced and have a strong subject
focus. Ideally they comprise 18-25 papers, although there have been
longer and shorter ones. More information can be found at www.geolsoc.org.uk/sp
